Instrument Test Drive
On Tuesday, May 13, we will have an instrument test drive at MCMS. This is a drop in meeting that will begin at 3:45 and end at 7:00. Enter from the front of the building. Each individual meeting takes approximately 15-20 minutes. This is an opportunity for new prospective band members to try the top two instruments they are interested in playing. It is also a great time for parents to meet Mr. Smith and to ask any questions they might have.
Rising 6th Grade Registration
No experience is needed. You will learn how to read music and how to play a new instrument when you join.
Indicate that you are interested in being in band on the middle school registration that was sent home through your elementary school. If you did not received that information packet, complete the interest form below.
Attend the instrument test drive on Tuesday, May 13.
Rising 7th Grade Registration
No experience is needed, but students will need to be prepared to catch up to their peers. This is possible with the right mindset going in. Instrument options might be limited based on current instrument needs.
If you are already in middle school, or if you are transferring from another school system, please click the link below to request more information.
Attend the instrument test drive on Tuesday, May 13 if you will be playing an instrument for the first time.
Rising 8th Grade
Students wanting to join in 8th grade should have prior instrumental experience. Perhaps you are transferring from another school or you have studied through private lessons. Click the link below to request information and Mr. Smith will be in touch.
Before You Buy An Instrument for Band...
You should be signed up for band.
Mr. Smith should have approved the instrument you have chosen to play.
This is only to ensure there is space available in that instrument section.
Generally, this is more important for those starting late in 7th or 8th grade.
Know where to purchase or rent a quality instrument.
An instrument is an investment. Instruments with a "disposable price point" tend to break quite easily and not fully repairable.
We have vetted music companies that specialize in school band instruments who have trained technicians that are able to service and repair the instruments.
Unless you are using a family instrument, Mr. Smith recommends parents consider rental and purchase options through:
Do not complete any rental or purchase until you have attended the instrument test drive or have discussed it with Mr. Smith.
