Comer Elementary PTO Meeting Minutes

January 16, 2019

Dr. Amanda Sailors, Mandy Moon, Alison Trump, Lori Westbrooks, Tracy Hendrix

Budget Update

Current balance is $4797.23. Movie night expenses and another payment for 1st grade field trip to Cici’s have been deducted. Movie night sales of $349.25 are included in the current balance.

Teacher Appreciation

2nd grade is already sending in k-cups for the coffee and cocoa bar on January 25. Mandy and Tracy will set-up the lounge the afternoon before. PTO members signed up to bring creamer and other items. Ideal Bagel has confirmed they will provide bagels for breakfast on February 21. Dr. Sailors will provide lunch on February 22, and PTO will bring desserts. Dr. Sailors mentioned the possibility of stocking the lounge with supplies (forks, paper towels, hand soap, dish detergent, etc.) as a future teacher appreciation activity.

Other Ideas/Comments

Mandy introduced the idea of having a paint party as a fundraiser. Dr. Sailors mentioned that school nutrition has suggested composting cafeteria leftovers. Compost could be used in the school garden. This idea is in the early stages of development but would be a great STEM activity.

Spirit Sprint

PTO discussed the following:

Deadline for sponsors - March 13.

This will give printers enough time to print banner. An ad/article recognizing sponsors will be placed in the Madison County Journal again this year.

No jars for teacher games this year.

Track signs will be $25. Parents can send in the full $25 and select their own message to be displayed, or students can bring in smaller amounts of money to contribute to a homeroom sign with the teacher choosing the message. $100 in homeroom donations = one homeroom sign.

Dress-up theme days to boost spirit and encourage participation. No donation required to dress-up.

Short sleeve shirts with design similar to last year’s in a mint/lime green.

Concessions pre-sold in $3 bundles (popcorn, cotton candy, Powerade in each bundle).

All sign, classroom, and concessions money due March 22. Students will be given tickets to claim their concessions on event day.

Dr. Sailors and Mr. Sikes will work with 5th grade leadership to determine a fun activity for administration to do if $2000 goal is reached.

Student info packet with info about signs, shirts, concessions, etc. sent home week after February 22 kick-off at STAR assembly.

Dr. Sailors sent email to Spirit Sprint teacher committee and teacher representatives about contacting former sponsors. She will also distribute a sign-up spreadsheet for this.

Next meeting

Thursday, February 14 at 3:15 p.m. Teacher representatives will attend to discuss Spirit Sprint plans.
