Comer Elementary School, home of the Comets, was founded in 1973, with funds from the Gholston Trust. Our mission statement, “caring, educating, and supporting students toward success in life,” expresses our desire to create a caring community of learners who achieve high standards in the classroom and in life.
Our mascot, Comet the Tiger, embodies the rich history of education in the Comer community, representing the tiger mascot of the former Comer High School and our current Comet mascot. Comer Elementary is a true community school and is committed to representing, serving, and supporting students and families in our diverse, rural community.
Our School Governance Team, the Gholston Trust Committee, and our School Leadership Team are committed to enriching our students’ education with a focus on the fine arts and STEM connections through agriculture in our community. Our students benefit from enrichment opportunities such as full-time Fine Arts teachers, BEYOND after-school clubs, and the Gholston Academic Enrichment Program. As we like to say, Comer is “one great school!”
