PTO Minutes - March 21, 2016

Budget

Current balance is $7,170.70. Only a few smaller field trip expenses remain outstanding. Dr. Register stated the budget is in very good shape for this point in the school year.

DOT Petition

GDOT has received the petitions to install a traffic signal at the new Hwy.72 Bypass/Hwy. 98 intersection. The Madison County Journal recently featured an article on the subject.  We are remaining optimistic that GDOT will install a signal.

Teacher Supplies

The After School Program partnered with PTO to purchase supplies for teachers. Supplies have been distributed to CES teachers. Dr. Register reported teachers were very appreciative.

Teacher Appreciation Week:  May 2 - 6

The group discussed themes and activities for Teacher Appreciation Week. Breakfast for teachers will be provided on Tuesday, May 3. Lunch will be provided on Thursday, May 5. Announcements concerning each day’s activities will be sent out the week before, along with requests for parents to send in various breakfast and lunch items.

Ag Day and Family Picnic:  May 16

Ag Day activities will take place on Monday, May 16. A variety of displays and exhibits will be set up for classes to explore. Plans to install raised garden beds are in the works. The beds will hopefully be completed in time for Ag Day.  The group also discussed other potential agriculture related projects at the school, including a pen for visiting animals, an outdoor classroom with garden shed, and a greenhouse.  MCHS construction classes may be able to help with some of these projects. The Title I Cookout/Family Picnic will be held the evening of the 16th with more Ag related activities planned.

Fall Family Movie Night

The group decided to hold off on discussions about a movie night (and whether it would be a fundraiser or not) until the official 2016-17 school calendar is approved.

2016-17 PTO Officers

Officer nominations for the 2016-17 school year may be turned in at the office. Current officers will be serving again next year, but additional officers are always welcome. Lori Westbrooks has been nominated and is willing to serve. Nominations will be discussed at the May PTO meeting.

Next meeting will be Monday, May 2 at 2:00 pm.  Teacher representatives will be present.
